My mom Stefania was in St Boniface hospital the summer of 2017 after a couple of bad falls in the spring, due to her Parkinson's Disease. She broke a few bones and it took a long time to recover. Both my brother and I do not live in Winnipeg but we came almost every weekend for the entire summer to find her a new place to live in a nursing/retirement home in Winnipeg. We toured through several public nursing homes in Winnipeg, perhaps as many as 8 or 10. There wasn't a single one of those places where we would want to have our mother live out her life. Towards the end of July, we were desperate to find a solution but heard about Brightwater Senior Retirement Living. It was still under construction when we first contacted Kim and had our first tour through the almost completed building. But even then we could tell that this place was going to be very special. Executive director Kim welcomed us with open arms and made our initial tour through the facility extra special, painting a picture of each area and how it would look when it was finished and how it would be furnished -- the dining room, fitness room, movie theater, Club 365, and the apartments. At the end of the tour we happily signed a contract for Mom. The next month was very busy for my brother and I to arrange my mom's affairs to sell the house and furniture and and set her up for her new life at Brightwater. Mom literally moved from the hospital and into her brand new apartment at Brightwater. She was only the third person to move in. But yet everything was perfect and all the staff were waiting for her in the beautiful lobby with gifts and flowers to welcome her to her new place. It was very emotional and very heartwarming. And the beautiful thing is, that has not changed since she moved in 9 months ago. The staff are absolutely phenomenal and take care of Mom around the clock 7 days a week. All she has to do is press a button at any time day or night and they come to help her to the bathroom or with whatever she may need, even if she just wants a warm glass of milk and a cookie. They dress Mom in the morning and make her bed, escort her to breakfast and every meal. She no longer has to take care of her meds by herself because the nurses take care of all of that. And the meals are absolutely outstanding. I literally just got off the phone with my mom 30 minutes ago and asked her how her dinner was tonight, and she said it was absolutely incredible with roast beef and Yorkshire pudding. And it was their monthly candlelight dinner with linen tablecloths and napkins and silverware. My mom participates in every single activity including the nightly movie at the theater, bingo, and daily fitness club with a professional trainer. Not only is my mom happy and comfortable. My brother and I take incredible comfort in knowing that Mom is being taken good care of. I call often to speak to the nursing staff and to Kim, I know them all on a first name basis now, and they always pick up the phone or reply to my emails, and even send me pictures of special events with Mom. I live in Ottawa, and my brother in Halifax, but visit often including this past Christmas and Easter. The staff put on an incredible buffet dinner each time with lots of guests and lots of holiday spirit. I am so incredibly thankful for having found Brightwater for Mom. It was a miracle that they were just finishing construction of this beautiful facility at the very time that we needed it most. Mom has made lots of friends and is even on the welcoming committee for new arrivals. I love to visit because I've come to know many of the residents also, and I feel like I'm coming home to a large extended family, including the caring and considerate staff members. Thank you Kim and team from the bottom of our hearts. From Mark and Eugene Pieconka, on behalf of our beautiful Mother Stefania.

My mother-in-law struggles with a form of dementia that affects her balance; unfortunately, last summer she fell twice and broke her wrist and femur which challenged us to find support for her to live independently with her husband.
Thankfully, we found Brightwater. The suites are huge, bright, beautiful and private and the staff is dedicated to getting know each resident on a personal level. When you're there, you feel like you're in an all-inclusive. The chefs prepare amazing meals daily and even allow for the families and friends to join in.
They provide daily activities, have their own movie theatre, and even take the residents out on excursions to various restaurants and shopping malls. I constantly joke that if the company were to open up a facility like this for people 30 - 75, I would move-in in a heartbeat.
If you have the opportunity to meet with the director Kim, you're in for a treat. She is a bright and empathetic individual and has created a very caring atmosphere for residents and guests alike. Her team is of the highest caliber, whether on the medical or hospitality team. I honestly can't sing their praises enough.

Moved my aunt and uncle there in Feb. It was a huge adjustment for them to move from BC to Wpg. and go from a big house to a 1 bedroom apartment. They absolutely LOVE it! When they go for meals, they think they are on a cruise ship. Excellent attentive staff who provide outstanding high quality care. Highly recommended this place for seniors who require health care.
