4 Ways to Make the Holiday Special for Your Loved One

|

Holidays are a great opportunity to get together with the ones we love, make them feel special, and find opportunities to draw a smile on our residents’ faces. Your loved ones are our loved ones as well. During this time of the year, each of our communities and professional staff go the extra mile to create an environment of happiness and holiday cheer. We can do our best, but family can make the biggest difference in how our seniors enjoy the upcoming holidays. Here are four ways you can make the holiday special for your loved one.

Participate in Festive Events

Making plans with your loved one to attend a festive local event could make a huge impact on our seniors, not only the day of the event but also the days before. Never underestimate the positive effects of having something to look forward to! You can even ask our staff for some recommendations. Maybe it’s listening to caroling in the park, going for brunch to their favorite restaurant, or watching a Christmas movie together. If you know about a good event for our seniors in your city, let our team know and we can spread the world.

Send a Special Gift

We know that your presence is the best gift for your loved one, but we also understand that it can be hard to make travel plans around the holidays. A great way to be present is by sending a special gift. You don’t need to spend much money or overthink it – sometimes a simple letter or photograph is the ideal gift. If you have kids in the house, enlist them to help you come up with something creative and fun!

Check in Often

This time of year, more than ever, it’s important to stay in touch with your loved one and let them know you’re thinking about them. It can be as quick as a phone call or as leisurely as a full-day visit – all that matters is that you show your loved one you care. If you can, consider bringing an old friend or extended family member for a visit. Seeing people from their past is a great way to connect seniors with Alzheimer’s or dementia to the present.

Spend the Holiday Together

Have you ever thought about spending the holidays with us? Come and enjoy a nice meal in our restaurant-style dining room, or go for a walk with your loved one around our beautiful communities. Unwrap Christmas gifts or make your New Year’s Eve toast here in the company of family and neighbors. We give you the options to do whatever is best for you and your loved one.

Do you have a favorite way to spend the holidays? We’d love to hear from you! For more ways to brighten your loved one’s day, check out our blog.
