7 Inspiring New Year's Resolutions for Seniors

|

With a new year comes new opportunities to start fresh and live better. Choosing a better way of living your life can start with something as little as changing your diet habits or going for a walk every day. At Brightwater Senior Living, we believe that there is always room for improvement. Here are 7 inspiring New Year's resolution ideas for seniors to get you started.

1. Eat Healthier

From making healthier dessert decisions to toasting with a smaller glass, there is always room for improvement in our diets. Luckily, Brightwater Senior Living’s in-house chefs create delicious and nutritious meals and snacks every day of the week. This year, consider increasing the amount of vegetables on your plate, cutting back on sugar, or making fruit your go-to snack.

2. Exercise

We all know that regular exercise is one of the best ways to ensure good health. At Brightwater, our residents can take advantage of our onsite fitness programs and add a new activity to their routine. Keep healthy, strong, and active by joining us in our daily classes, or grab a friend and go for a walk around the community. Even if you’ve been working out regularly for years, use January 1st as an excuse to recommit yourself to a healthy lifestyle.

3. Pick Up a New Hobby

Join the book club or become a movie connoisseur. Create a new group for card games or billiards. Take advantage of our shopping trips and become the expert shopper and the go-to gifts advisor. Abundant opportunities to engage with your neighbors and stay active come with our recreational and cultural activities.

4. Give Back

Nothing feels better than using your time to help others, and the new year is the perfect time to commit to giving back. If you’re looking for volunteer opportunities within our community, check out our Ambassadors program, which offers our residents the chance to put their time and talents to good use outside the community.

5. Make a New Friend

Our communities are the perfect place to meet new people. Talk to someone you don’t know yet. Sit for a meal with someone you disagree with. Go for a walk with a new member of the community. Here, the opportunities are endless as long as you reach to someone you don’t know. Who knows, maybe you’ll meet your new best friend.

6. Learn a New Skill

Now is the perfect time to learn something new. Join our music groups, sign up for an arts and crafts class, or get your hands dirty with our gardening programs. Pick one or all of them! Other activities that our residents love include our creative writing program, computer and internet classes, and guest speakers.

7. Give Up a Bad Habit

While you’re adding all these exciting new resolutions, it might be time to consider taking something away. This is the perfect opportunity to nix that bad habit that you’ve been carrying around. Maybe you’re thinking about watching less TV. Maybe it’s time to finally quit smoking. Whatever your vice, try to replace it with something positive. You won’t regret it!
